Senegal official languages are Wolof and French due to colonization.

In many rural parts of Western Africa like Sénégal or Senegal ( May Liveleak permits tonic accent on letters some day ) orphans children or children coming from poor families are often put in Qur'anic ( Islamic ) schools where they are literally adopted and forced to learn every verses of the Qur'an and to work for their "marabouts" or religious teachers/leaders. Work includes repairing roads barehanded with sand and rocks, executing diverse agricultural works, beg all day long in the sun or to be the sexual slaves of their masters. ( I'm not making any of these things up...search the net ! ) If they do not comply or fail to do what they tell them to do they are whipped and beaten into submission. At the age of around 17 they are allow freedom but the lack of education and values lead them all ( nearly all ) to beg some more to survive or to pile up in slums dedicated to talibes where drug consumption and rape are common.
Talibe being the name given to the so called student of the Qur'an in this part of the world.

The "marabouts" profits largely from this cheap labor and though they are supposed to care for these children education and well being, in most case they enriched themselves on the back of the youngsters labor.

Marabouts are somewhat respected in Senegal and this need to change. Many know what evil they are doing but few dare to denounced the extend of their evilness.
