What kind of human scum just watches a woman getting raped and does nothing?
Apparently NZ is the place to go find them.
Horrified onlookers see daylight sex attack
By LEIGHTON KEITH - Taranaki Daily News
A woman was abducted from a New Plymouth street and raped in broad daylight yesterday as horrified members of the public looked on.
The 48-year-old was walking along Breakwater Rd, near the intersection with Pioneer Rd, about 7.45am when she was grabbed by a man who forced her on to a nearby grass area where he sexually violated her in full view of the busy road.
Sirens pierced the still morning air as police raced to the scene. They were able to arrest the alleged offender, a 29-year-old Taranaki man, soon after.
Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward said it was an abhorrent, disgusting sexual attack.
"She was walking along the road minding her own business when she was approached by the suspect, which resulted in the attack," Mr Coward said. It was an unusual attack for the time of day, Mr Coward said, but he was pleased with the response from the public.
"It was fantastic, they had seen what was going on in this location and at least five have come forward and provided very helpful and useful information to the police," he said.
The victim was very distraught and shaken after the attack and had been offered the services of victim support.
She did not require medical treatment.
The alleged offender fled the scene but was caught about 400m away on Parris St within 10 minutes.
"It was a fantastic result by all of the staff," Mr Coward said.
"It was a terrible crime, which thankfully we have sorted pretty quickly.
"To have someone apprehended with 10 minutes of the crime is reassuring to the public," he said.
Police tape cordoned off the area around the Moturoa sub station at the intersection.
Children on their way to school and passing motorists looked on as police searched the area.
