Battlefield Tracheotomy on US 1/7 Air Cav soldier with no anesthesia, fully awake & lucid.

The doc treating the man is Captain Robert Carrara, battalion surgeon,
and the wounded soldier is Specialist 4 Arthur Viera. Viera was a member of the 7th
Cavalry (Air Mobile), 1st Battalion. The Battlefield Tracheotomy footage was shot at the
battalion aid station @ LZ XRAY..

Additional footage is also from the LZ-X-Ray/Ia Drang Valley area (Central Highlands, base of the Chu Pong massif) during the 11/14-11/16 1965 Battle

I read about this very guy in Hal Moore's 'We were soldiers once...and young. Great book. The doctor was Robert J Carrara, and the was Arthur Viera, who survived. Again, a great book.

No way he didn't have any painkillers. Nobody would lie there like that without flinching while someone else cuts into your throat.

he is not moving at all..that has nothing to do with pain meds.
he was mostly paralyzed (quadriplegic) from an injury..that explains y he was not feeling any pain at all
