Police said Mclaurin stumbled out of the crashed car and took off on foot.
The officer fired a Taser twice to subdue him and placed him under arrest.
The driver of the Nitro was encased in airbags when police arrived and was trapped inside of his car for about an hour before firefighters were able to free him.
"Tremendous amount of force was involved in the collision. He made a very good purchase when he bought that Nitro with side curtain airbags. I think, quite frankly it saved his life," said Warren Detective Sgt. Randy Ricotta.
The driver was taken to an area hospital, where he is in serious condition and is being treated for chest injuries.
Mclaurin was arraigned on charges of alluding police, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of the accident.
He faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted.
Police said Mclaurin had a felony warrant for drug charges at the time of the crash.
