Ron Paul calls Occupy Wall Street a ‘legitimate effort’

By David Edwards
Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said
Wednesday that the Occupy Wall Street protests were a “legitimate
effort,” but he wasn’t exactly sure what they are outraged about.
“I can’t speak for the people out there because I don’t know who they
are or exactly what they are demonstrating against,” Paul told the
Nation Press Club. “I can argue the case for their right to express
their outright frustration with what is going on. Some are liberals and
some are conservatives and some are libertarians and some are strict
constitutionalists. And if you read carefully over what I’ve written
over the past 10 or 15 years, I talk a lot about this, that eventually
we will go bankrupt.”
“As far as the federal government involved in the practice of civil
disobedience in the various states, it’s really up to the states to deal
with it. I think that civil disobedience, if everybody knows exactly
what they are doing, is a legitimate effort. It’s been done in this
country for many grievances. Some people end up going to jail for this.
But to speak for a special group and say, ‘Yeah, I like what they are
doing or they are not doing,’ but what I want to do is try to sort it
out and tell people why they are struggling and that this was a
predictable event.”

  • If the American people didn't show dissent against a government, they would still be under the rule of our monarch. People bring about change, not government.

  • Straddled that fence quite well, Ron's mouth was saying one thing while his eyes screamed 'stupid fuckin hippies!' Very touchy feely right now, gotta be careful, especially since no one has a clue what thier demonstrating about any more. Too many cooks have spoiled the soup.

  • Yes, keep hiding your head in the sand. Of course Wall Street had nothing to do with the 2008 collapse or the millions people losing homes and or savings.

Jesus, some of you people are so brainwashed. The creeps who let the collapse happen and made fortunes doing it, must be laughing at the your stupidity.

Watch Inside job by Charles H. Ferguson, if you don`t know what I`m talking about.
    And obviously, you don`t!

    • @Tuuri56

The US federal government was the primary cause and complicit in what happened.

It would not have happened without Federal policies.

    • @vicsemprini That is true, the FED is partly to blame, as are both parties and the Clinton and Bush administrations.

But the biggest reason is the plain greed of Wall Street execs. If they are at all worth their big salaries, they should`ve seen the risks they were taking. And some of them did, and still went ahead with the risks, and made tens of millions.
And the officials who should`ve been monitoring what`s happening on Wall Street, were sleeping on the job and/or believed the aforementione More..
