Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare - Conservative Reaction Absurd

"The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. upheld the heart of President Obama's healthcare law Thursday, ruling that the government may impose tax penalties on those who do not have health insurance.
The decision came on a 5-4 vote, with the court's four liberal justices joining with the chief justice. On one hand, Roberts agreed with the law's conservative critics who said Congress does not have the power to mandate the purchase of a private product such as health insurance. But the Affordable Care Act does not impose a true legal mandate on Americans, he said. It simply requires those who do not have health insurance by 2014 to pay a tax penalty...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

  • Does anyone here, (besides the poster), really listen or watch these 'Young Turds'?

  • First, the supreme court is not political. Certainly they do personally advocate for various ideologies regarding the interpretation and implementation of the Constitution. This case was based on interpretation of the law as it applies to the Constitution. That is the job of the Supreme Court.

I see this not as a case of "big-government" forcing people to participate in the health-care system,

I see it as "big-government" doing its duty to protect those of us who do pay f More..

  • Healthcare is not a commodity, its a necessity. Particularly if you want to fancy yourself a civilized society.

That's true. But that is an argument for a gov't run national healthcare system. The system in place now is a sham, healthcare legislation written by insurance industry think tanks.

Agreed! I would even go so far as to make healthcare a human right.

  • This is not a healthcare bill, this just puts the government in charge, which means they can now regulate behavior as it relates to health costs.

We will repeal this but for now, the Robes have set a dangerous precedent, giving the Federal Government unlimited power to force American to buy whatever the fuck they want us to buy.

Americans have taken up arms to defend their freedom before and will will do so again if need be.

  • Rand Paul: “Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be ‘constitutional’ does not make it so. The whole thing remains unconstitutional.”

Um, yeah, dude. It means exactly that.

  • The whole idea of "bigger govenment" is what bothers me about the whole thing. I have no problem with there being health care for everybody in fact I would applaud it,but it needs to be done in a fashion other than the government "ordering" citizens to do so. The same can be said about anything. Suppose the government said to vegetarians "You'll eat meat once per week or pay a fine" or tell parents that home school their children "You'll send your child to our More..

  • This tax will be devastating for the country. obamacare will get voted down by the next congress. We have too much unfunded liabilities right now. This law will be center on the table for this election and obama will have to support it. It will be very difficult to defend a shit law.

    • @dcmfox When your glorious and perfect bill was passed, the fine was in the thousands and backed up by a year in jail. All for not having health insurance. That part had to be struck down afterwords, when they actually read it, with much resistance from the loony left. Shows your true colors right there.

  • None of you read the ruling so be weary...

Roberts called it a tax and then said it wasn't a tax in nearly the same sentence for different purposes. Obama swore up and down it was not a tax. congress never called it a tax and the bill never calls it a TAX

    The ruling is absurd, however...

The constitutionality is not the issue.. The issue is REPEAL before if continues to destroy the country.

Congress can refuse to fund it, we can kick Obama's ass out and repeal it with the stroke of a pen...

Once again, the "party of no" term will come back around easily.

It's too easy taking shit away from the GOP now. Democrats got this on lockdown for the next couple of elections. THANKS!

These CONservatives don't understand crap. Its a fine that is paid to the IRS. No it doesn't raise anyone taxes.

Now people won't be tied to their jobs for fear of losing their health care.

Hell this could inspire more Entrepreneurs since people can take insurance WITH them. In the past entrepreneurs normally would start a business and go without HC until they turned a profit and could afford it.
