LONG BEACH, Calif. A 43-year-old FBI agent who accidentally shot herself in the hip in the parking lot of the World Trade Center in Long Beach was reported to be in stable condition Wednesday.
The agent suffered a "self-inflicted" wound from an "accidental discharge" from her service weapon Tuesday, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Mike Duree said the agent was taken to St. Mary Medical Center "in a great amount of pain," adding that she was in stable condition.
The agent's name was not released. Eimiller said she was assigned to the Los Angeles field office. Most FBI agents carry a Glock .40-caliber or a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, Eimiller said.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene of the accident -- a parking lot at the World Trade Center, just north of Ocean Avenue in downtown Long Beach -- at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, where they found the agent suffering from a gunshot wound, Duree said.
