Israel Air Force aircraft bombed two militant activity targets in the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening, after a deadly weekend on the border. The Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson's Unit said all targets were hit and reported no injuries among the soldiers.
There have been no reports of injuries on the Palestinian side.
The army said the strike was in response to the rocket and mortar shells fired at Israel over the weekend. "The IDF views the Hamas terror organization as solely responsible for what is happening in the Gaza Strip and for maintaining the calm there," the military said in a statement.
Three foreign workers from Thailand were seriously, moderately and lightly injured Saturday after a mortar shell fired from Gaza exploded next to them in a kibbutz in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council. Three other people suffered shock. Several hours later, a truck driver was lightly injured from shrapnel after Palestinians fired a Qassam rocket from the Strip.
An exchange of fire with militants on the Gaza border on Friday ended with a tragic event, after Staff Sergeant Nadav Rotenberg was killed by friendly fire. An investigation into the incident revealed that a GPS glitch in a computerized mortar shell system fired a mortar at Rotenberg and his comrades. An officer was moderately injured in the incident, and two other soldiers sustained light wounds.
