General Daoud Rajiha, the defence minister of Syria aswell as other ministers and high ranking officials have been killed in a major attack on the Defence Ministry Building in the Ummayad Square.
Ummayad square is located just down the road of the Presidential Palace.

UPDATE: The Syrian Interior Minister is amongst the seriously injured.
UPDATE2: The Brother-in-Law of Bashar Al-Assad, Assef Shawkat is reported to have been killed or seriously injured in the same blast.
UPDATE3: Al-Assad's brother-in-law has now been confirmed killed in the attack.
UPDATE4: The Syrian Interior Minister, Mohammed Ibrahim al-Shaar has now been confirmed killed in the attack.
UPDATE5: Confusing reports if it was a suicide bomb or a planted charge in the conference room.
UPDATE6: High Ranking General Hassan Turkmani reportedly killed in the same attack.
