Mumbai: A 20-year-old flight attendant committed suicide in Mumbai allegedly after a fight with her boyfriend over smoking.
Anupama Acharya allegedly jumped to death following an altercation with her boyfriend Samar Yuvedraj, who reportedly insisted she quit smoking.
Reconstruction: Anupama had missed her flight on Tuesday and decided to spend time with her boyfriend Samar. After watching the evening show of a movie, the couple returned home to Samar's Jeel Darshan apartments in Powai, Mumbai. The couple had invited another friend for an evening of drinks.
After several rounds of drinks and smoking cigarettes, at about 1.30 am, Anupama reportedly insisted on smoking some more.
That’s when Samar intervened and supposedly tried to stop her from smoking. After a heated argument, Anupama threatened to leave home.
Samar followed her out of the house, the couple sat on the stairs where Samar tried to calm her down.
Concerned, Samar also reportedly called up Anupama's father in Kolkata, who tried to talk her out of it as well.
After series of conversations, Anupama reportedly lost her temper, ran to the fifth floor of Samar's building and jumped.
The police have recorded the statement of both Samar and his friend Martin and have registered a case of accidental death.
“Samar requested her not to smoke but she was persistent. So they had a huge fight over it. This has been registered as accidental death. Investigation is still on and the truth will come out,” says Senior Police Inspector, Rajdut Rupwate.
Anupama's family will reach Mumbai and take the custody of her body after the post-morterm is conducted.
