Palm Springs honors Iranian Angels

Angels Die in the Soil has received the Best International Film Award of the Palm Springs Festival's Cinema without Borders category.

Iranian filmmaker Babak Amini's Angels Die in the Soil depicts the encounter of a young woman and an American soldier, who has been shot and left for dead on the Iran-Iraq border.

Subira (Kenya) Directed by Ravneet 'Sippy' Chadha, By Night (Germany) Directed by Julia Scharz, Cairn (Norway) Directed by Hanne Larsen, Crossbow (Australia) Directed by David Michod, were the other nominees along with Amini's 31-minute Angels Die in the Soil in the Cinema without Borders category at the 2008 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival.

The 14th Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, the largest short film festival and market in North America, was held on August 21-27, 2008, screening 318 short films from around the globe.
