Canadians Tell Americans How Utterly Ridiculous They Really Are

Canadian Doctors for Medicare hosted a celebration of Medicare in Canada. The speakers included Roy Romanow, former Saskatchewan Premiere and Commissioner on Health Care in Canada. They tell Americans that Canadian universal health care works and encourage Americans to implement a single payer universal health care system. The video also features Dr. Steven Lewis a health policy and research consultant, Dr. Danielle Martin, Dr. Ryan Meili and Dr. Robert Woolard representing the Canadian Doctors for Medicare and Linda Silas President of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.

MB note: The video having been made in 2008 what the lady predicts for the next few years at 2:10 is actually now reality so the USA spends 18% of its GDP on health, not 15%. Europe and Old Commonwealth Countries spend between 9 and 12% of theirs and have universal healthcare.

Also, a bit of history for the ignorant americans on this forum; The first universal healthcare system was implemented by Otto von Bismarck of the second German Reich, a great and strong conservative who united German principalities and formed the German Empire. The bills incited a significant decrease in emigration to america, meaning that if it had proper healthcare yankeeland would have a lot more blond-haired blue-eyed retards like those on liveleak (indeed, shipping perfectly fine Germans to america seems like a waste of Germans to me, but anyway..) they'd have more of these archetype yanks instead of other races those same retards seem to despise so much, just a bit of typical contradiction (Ku Klux Klan anyone?). Plus good ol' Bismarck described the social reform as 'practical Christianity', which in itself should deal a resounding blow to all the ridiculous pseudo-christian evangelicals that are so prevalent in the US. If a 19th century German conservative considered universal healthcare as desirable and religiously proper, what does that tell us about that large section of Americans who ironically call themselves conservatives? What it tells us is that they're not really conservatives, just loud ignorant primitive unscrupulous masochistic sissies whose manhood depends on explosive toys and who have a fixation on non-issues and state-sponsored drivels. Enjoy the videos :)

  • Left wingers here in America and out in the other developed nations just can't firgure out "why?" is the United States so politically different? Why can't the United States just submit to the same old narrative of what it means to being your average developed nation, says those who couldn't give a damn about their own cutural identity and more about the "global united" identity of Socialism that is suppose to put the poor on an elevated pedestal of benifits with "shared More..

    • @popcana You have to understand that practically the entire rest of the western world finds America to be a complete laughing stock for people's consistently ridiculous reactions to the idea of anything even vaguely socialist. Healthcare is the prime example of this. I'm not saying this to make fun of the USA, just stating the truth.

I flat out disagree with you on your whole freedom argument. If you think freedom simply means lack of government involvement, then what you really want is anarch More..

    • @ljamesb I already stated that the developed nations or "western world" has a different political culture than the United States. Each of these countries has at least one major political party that openly runs on a Socialist platform, the United States doesn't. Healthcare IS the prime example of how so differently we are. If you find that Americans are too vague on what they deem Socialist that might because the simple definition of Socialism itself is vague. And to that, what's regard More..

  • Gee, if we fix all our bad habits we'll end up perfect - just like formerly great but now largely irrelevant Britain. No, I think we'll just remove Obama this fall and your leader can insert his nose into a new American asshole, so you can keep one of the few friends you actually have in the world.

    Cheers!

  • im from the province of quebec and i cannot attest to this. our system sucks. waiting times are super long. we pay our meds overpriced. surgery is over 6 months waiting line. sucks sucks sucks, i cannot even have a freaking doctor to check me out once a year. oh yea it's free, but i pay it with my super high taxe rate and i cannot even benefit from it.

I would welcome the private sector in our system.

***I do not know how it is in other provinces***

  • Ontario recorded the shortest waiting time overall (the wait between visiting a general practitioner and receiving treatment) at 15.0 weeks, followed by British Columbia (19.0 weeks) and Quebec (19.4 weeks). Saskatchewan (27.2 weeks), New Brunswick (25.2 weeks) and Nova Scotia (24.8 weeks) recorded the longest waits in Canada.

The waiting time between referral by a GP and consultation with a specialist rose to 9.2 weeks from the 8.8 weeks recorded in 2006. The shortest waits for specialist cons More..

  • Never would have guessed that a government bureaucrat would promote an agency that just happens to pay him a fat salary.

Also, why do liberals always bring up health care spending statistics while refusing to acknowledge America's incredible R&D contributions? Countries with socialized healthcare contribute far less, because why compete when a socialied mechanism promotes mediocracy?

    • @WolfBite120 The US' "incredible R&D innovations," per capita, are no more than any other industrialized country, especially Canada and the UK. You Americans are so brainwashed into thinking you're #1. Fact of the matter is, if every industrialized nation had a population of 300 million, the US would be last in EVERY category. I'm Canadian and openly admit Finland is a better nation. Why? Because it IS.

  • Try to schedule an MRI and see how long the wait time. No wonder so many Canadian travels to the United States for advanced treatment without waiting for months. The %GDP is grossly underreported because it doesn't account for the tax that went to prop up the system.
