Wild turkey hunters get a surprise visitor

Stay away from hunters. That’s usually Lesson No. 1 for deer in the wild. Stay far, far away. And, generally, most deer do stay far, far away from hunters.

So imagine the surprise of hunters Steve Hunt and Rick Lehman on the
first day of turkey hunting season deep in the woods of southern
Tuscarawas County in Ohio -- when a deer walked up to their turkey
blind.

"She walked in and started playing with our turkey decoys," Hunt told newsnet5.com in Cleveland.

Then, the brave deer inched closer to the camouflaged hunters hiding in the blind.

Soon, the hunters were feeding the doe potato chips, and one hunter went
so far as having the deer take a potato chip from his mouth.

  • Thats cool! I wonder though had she possibly been hand raised and later released. I always find it quite amusing and a bit of a victory when Im deer hunting when a young deer or doe comes into my blind location and I let them get as close as possible without detecting me. My personal best was watching 8 does pass by me at a mere 6 feet and not one of them ever spotted me. That to me was just as if not more satisfying than shooting a deer.

    • @gonehuntin I am sure that was not the first time she was hand fed.

    • @gonehuntin---I'd love to have you sit next to me during season. I just sit on a bucket and the deer come in very close. Very cool.

    • @-sloop-
Apparently I also have a bear magnet on my ass as well. Had a few close encounters with them as well. Worst one was being between a sow with three cubs all at about 12 yards. I dont mind the boars so much since they can usually be scared away but Momma is very unpredictable with cubs as you well know Im sure.

    • @gonehuntin--I do know what yer sayin'. Last time I had to deal with a sow with cubs was when the X knocked on my door and wanted more $$. Scary indeed.

    • @-sloop- LMAO They will go to great lengths in getting what they want.Unlike yourself it was probably far easier in my situation to rid my sow of my space and I've yet to see her again. Yours probably keeps coming back.

  • Never thought to shoot her, what a stupid comment, of course they didn't, they we're turkey hunting and deer are out of season. Plus these guys strike me as ethical resource hunters. Now if the deer would only do this when they are in season lol!

  • True hunters there. Respect and appreciation for nature are the foundation for being an ethical hunter.

I love hunting, and will until the day I die.... but I always feel a sense of sadness when I take the life of an animal. This causes me to take great care with my shots and to never let an animal suffer needlessly. After a kill, I usually just go sit by the animal, have a smoke and thank the spirit of the animal and apologize for taking it's life to feed my family.

When I took my Buffal More..

  • This kind of "contact" with Mother nature has been happening for eons.

That is why most of us hunt.

It is not about the "kill".

Sadly non hunters never see this, it happens to all hunters.

  • Where I live there are many hunters; I even go with them sometimes in their hunts, most of them I find them to be extremely good people. The lies and propaganda from politicians and so called "animal activists" are completely untrue. I find hunters to have a better sense of ethics and values, that's what city people don't understand.

  • shooting any animal under a feeder is not hunting im my book.

    • @hilljack998 It's illegal where I live. You can hunt in a corn piece or apple orchard, but you can't bring in any food or bait. Attractant and cover-up scents are OK though.

  • I once had a young doe come up to me and touch my leg with her nose. I was bow-hunting deer too. She quickly ran away when I moved. It was a great experience.

  • I have been feeding deer on my property for over 25 years.I dont use auto feeders,I just fill a old 2lb coffee can with whole corn. When they hear me shake the can they come running in if they are hungry, within 3-5 ft of me.But I never got them to take anything out of my hand, but i know its been done before. This video dosent surprise me very much.Want to add-havent killed a deer in over 15 years, but i do enjoy the hunt.If see one much better then my last best i will take him.

    • @DeerMan--My venison is all but gone already. I've decided to take two this year. You know that many farmers around here will leave some corn standing after harvest so the deer can have it. Pretty cool.
